§ 10-36. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    At large . A dog is deemed to be "at large" when it is off the premises of its owner and not under control by leash or chain.

    Board means the Texas Board of Health or its successor.

    Owner means that person who actually has the right of control of the dog or cat, the right to sell or otherwise deal with the dog or cat, or, if such person be a minor, then the natural or legal guardian of such minor owner. If the dog or cat shall make its home upon any premises within the corporate limits of the city, and no person claims to be the owner of such dog or cat, such dog or cat shall be deemed to be the property of the head of the household of the premises where such dog or cat makes its home.
