§ 10-81. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Wild animal means any mammal, amphibian, reptile or fowl which is of a species which is wild by nature, and of a species which, due to size, vicious nature or other characteristics is dangerous to human beings. Such animals shall include, but not be limited to, lions, bobcats, lynx, cougars, ocelots, jaguars, tigers, leopards, panthers, bears, wolves, raccoons, skunks (whether deodorized or not), apes, gorillas, orangutans, monkeys of a species whose average adult weight is 20 pounds or more, foxes, elephants, rhinoceroses, alligators, crocodiles and all forms of poisonous reptiles. The term "wild animal," as used in this article, shall not include gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, mice or rabbits.
