§ 10-85. Same—Redemption of impounded wild animal; failure to redeem.

  • The owner of any animal impounded under this article may redeem such animal within seven days of the date of impoundment upon payment of the fees set out in this section, provided that:

    (1)

    Such animal is not infected or believed to be infected with rabies or any other disease;

    (2)

    Such person submits to the director of public works a sworn affidavit setting out the location where the animal will be kept, and that he will not permit, suffer, cause or allow such animal to be kept within the city.

    If such animal is not redeemed within seven days of the date of initial impoundment, the director of public works shall be authorized to offer such animal to publicly owned zoos or medical institutions using such animals for research. If such animal is not accepted by a zoo or medical institution within 30 days of the date of initial impoundment, the director shall be authorized to destroy such animal.
